Google 2-step authentication is great, but…

I’m in a taxi, and have no way to generate an application-specific password for the Google Places mobile app I just downloaded, so I get this ‘fail’ screen :(

    Two step verification is evil. I was locked out of my account for 2+ weeks last year because my confirmation # was my Beijing mobile, and Google locked me out when I was traveling overseas without China Mobile reception (and hence had no way to verify my account). It’s just too risky to sign up for it, IMHO. If the stars are aligned, it’s all well and good. Many people, however, must find themselves in odd situations locked out of their accounts. And trust me, there is no way to get in touch with “Google” to resolve this. Just one more example of why corporations cannot be considered people…
